Your first look at Austin Dillon's 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racer, the first to wear #3 since Dale Earnhardt Sr's tragic death. He will presumably run this car with RCR for the entirety of the 2014 season with various sponsors. Photo via noted Twitter superspy !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Especially as it's not Black or Wrangler.

Let's hope Dillon can do it honor as Stewart has done for A J Foyt's number 14.

the #3 should have been retired by NASCAR forever

Honestly, I'm not sure I would want that burden as a rookie. DE means the world to a certain segment of the NASCAR crowd. I suppose he has had a while to get used to the notion coming up, but still.

Race drivers being a superstitious lot, I'm surprised anybody would agree to run that number. I think it should have been retired.

I like that they changed the color scheme up and didn't roll out a black car immediately.

NASCAR has had a few incidents over the years where high profile drivers died on the track. Just like this situation, the number was always raced again successfully. 22 was raced after "Fireball" Roberts burned up at Charlotte. 8 was raced after Joe Weatherly hit his head on the wall at Riverside. 3 has been Austin's number for his entire driving career and was his grandfather's number for his entire driving career. They waited more than an appropriate amount of time. Now the kid can write his chapter in the history of the 3 in Cup racing.

I didn't realize Austin's personal history with the number. Given that, it makes all the sense in the world for him to run it.

I'm actually the guy who found the picture of the 3 car and it was a complete accident. I was trying to figure out if Michael McDowell was actually going to race the 51 this weekend when I stumbled upon the picture via Google.
